Sakharam Ganesh Deuskar (Aged 43), a revolutionary journalist and close associate of Sri Aurobindo, was born in 1869 in a village near Deoghar, Jharkhand. Despite being of Marathi origin, he was brought up in a Bengali environment and acted as a bridge between the Maharashtra and Bengal renaissance movements. Deuskar considered Bal Gangadhar Tilak as his political guru.
As a prolific writer, Deuskar contributed to most of the revolutionary magazines in Bengali, including the influential work “Desher Katha,” which was later translated into Hindi as “Desh Ki Baat.” The book shed light on the exploitation of the Indian economy by British colonial rule and helped mobilize the masses for the Indian National Movement. Deuskar passed away in 1912.
