Shirishkumar Mehta (Aged 16), born on 28 December 1926, was an Indian freedom fighter and a revolutionary in the movement for Indian independence. In 1942, Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Quit India movement against the British.
On 9 September 1942, Shirishkumar led a procession protesting against the government in Nandurbar. The police had set up barricades at the Mangal Bazar area, and when the procession reached them, the police launched a lathi charge on the protesters. Shirishkumar, carrying the Tiranga, the Indian national flag, and shouting the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’, was shot dead on the spot when the police opened fire after their lathi charge failed to stop the procession. Dhansukhlal Wani, Ghanshyam Das, Shashidhar Ketkar, and Laldas were also killed alongside him.
