T.N. Arthanari

(1921 – 2001) – (Tamilnadu)

T.N. Arthanari (Aged 80), born on the 21st of June in 1921 to Narayanamudaliyar and Athayiammal in the village of Attayampatti, located in the Salem District of Tamil Nadu, India. He held a profound interest in the teachings of Gnananda Giri Swamiji. During his youth, his passion was deeply rooted in the political ideologies of figures like Mahatma Gandhi, Kamaraj, and Rajaji. He sang songs of freedom and kindled a longing for independence among the people. Arthanari actively participated in significant movements such as the Salt Satyagraha in 1932 and the Quit India Movement in 1942. As a result of his involvement, he faced arrest and imprisonment, serving time in both Kovai Central Jail and Sangagiri Jail in Tiruchangodu.

In a display of his unwavering commitment, he declined the government’s offer of Martyrs’ Land. In 1980, he founded the Tamil Nadu Freedom Fighter Association, where he also held the position of secretary. From 1981 onwards, he received a pension from the State Government. Regrettably, T.N. Arthanari passed away on the 31st of October, 2001.
