Tookaram

Tookaram was a resident of the former Penth State, which is now a part of Nasik district, Maharashtra, India. He actively participated in the Uprising of 1857 and engaged in multiple clashes with the British in the Nasik region. He urged people in his community to support the rebels’ efforts to overthrow British rule. Following a confrontation with the British forces in Nasik, he was arrested and accused of ‘murder and rebellion.’ Subsequently, Tookaram was sentenced to death and executed by hanging on January 4, 1858.
