U Shai Rangbah, born and brought up in the Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya, India, was one of the most loyal lieutenants of U Kiang Nangbah, an eminent freedom fighter of the Jaintia people. U Shai Rangbah actively participated in waging a guerrilla war against the British during the Jaintia uprising in December 1861.
He moved down to Mynso to resist the British expeditionary force, and under the leadership of U Kiang Nangbah, fought in different places of the Jaintia Hills. Unfortunately, he was killed in an encounter with his enemies at Nangbah in 1862.
