Vegesna Narayana Raju

Vegesna Narayana Raju was a resident of Vempadu village, taluka Bhimavaram, in West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh. He belonged to the Kshatriya community, and his father’s name was Krishnam Raju. After completing the fifth grade, he gave up his studies and established talimkhanas to train young men in swordplay.

He participated in the Quit India movement of 1942 and, along with his associates, set fire to offices, broke open the sub-jail, and freed the prisoners there.

On August 17, 1942, while he was trying to snatch guns from the police at the Bhimavaram Police Station, the Sub-Inspector of Police aimed to shoot him. Raju passed away on August 18, 1942.
